Each of these locations is certainly unique and very very different from each other, which really required Aaron and I to decide what type of program and community we were interested in spending the next 5 years in. Mercer in Savannah is a university-affiliated, community based program centered in Savannah! That is absolutely a pro for me...despite the summer humidity, I have always enjoyed visits to Savannah! Emory University is centered in the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, which Aaron and I both enjoyed (except for the traffic) in college. This general surgery program services 6 major hospitals, and there is definitely a large focus in trauma and the residents spend much of there time at Grady Hospital. Greenville Hospital Systems has a very unique feel, as a community based hospital, currently unaffiliated with a university. It is a hospital with almost 1000 beds, so the residents will be servicing only that hospital. Aaron is excited about the variation of each of the programs...and all the other programs that we have interviewed at.
Although I was unable to travel to Savannah or Greenville, Aaron kept an eye out for things that I would really enjoy or potential job opportunities for me...such a sweet and thoughtful husband! I was able to go to the Emory interview and loved getting to know some of the other applicants and meet some of the residents that Aaron got to know well during his away rotation in October.
So, that brings us to three words: WE ARE DONE! We have finally completed interview season! What a relief! We loved seeing what other programs had to offer, but it is nice to finally be able to weigh the pros and cons of each and make our decisions. I am thankful that the Lord has blessed Aaron and I with unity in this decision...how much more difficult it would be for us and our marriage if we weren't on the same page!
